Two students, including a 17‑  year‑old boy, were caught with suspected high‑grade marijuana valued at P60,000 during a classroom search at a public school in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City, on Wednesday, July 1.

According to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) , the discovery was made after a teacher initiated a classroom search following reports of a missing cellphone and cash.

Police said an 18-year-old Grade 11 student tried to flee during the search but was stopped by the school's security guard.

Upon search, they said the student surrendered an eco-bag containing several sachets of suspected kush and drug paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old boy, who is being treated as a child in conflict with the law (CICL), also allegedly tried to stop authorities from searching his bag.

When the bag was opened, authorities found a canister containing additional sachets of the suspected illegal substance.

Authorities said they recovered a total of 33 sachets of suspected high-grade marijuana, weighing about 40 grams and valued at P60,000, from the two students.

The 18-year-old student is in police custody, undergoing drug testing at the EPD Forensic Unit, and will undergo inquest proceedings.

The 17‑year‑old boy was placed under protective custody at the Bahay Pag‑asa Youth Center, with social workers and his guardians monitoring his welfare.

“Our schools must never become havens for illegal drugs. This incident highlights the critical importance of vigilance among our teachers and security personnel in shielding our youth from the dangers of narcotics. We will continue to support institutions that prioritize a drug-free learning environment,” Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, NCRPO director, said.
