Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corp. (SEMPHIL) formally launched its APEX (Accelerating Partnerships Towards Excellence) Academe Partnership Program, bringing together leading universities, technical institutions, and government stakeholders in a unified effort to help prepare the next generation of Filipino engineers and manufacturing professionals.
The program was formally introduced during the Memorandum of Agreement signing ceremony held at SEMPHIL’s manufacturing facility in Calamba, Laguna, marking a significant step in strengthening collaboration between industry and academia.
Participating institutions include Mapua Malayan Colleges Laguna, Mapua University, MFI Polytechnic Institute Inc., Mindanao State University-Iligan, TESDA CALABARZON, and University of the Philippines Diliman.
The initiative builds upon SEMPHIL’s longstanding commitment to education, technical training, and workforce development. Over the years, the company has invested in programs that support students, employees, and future professionals through scholarships, continuing education opportunities, and industry-based learning experiences.
As manufacturing technologies continue to evolve and industries increasingly require specialized skills, closer collaboration between educational institutions and industry partners has become more important than ever. Through this partnership program, SEMPHIL seeks to help bridge that gap by creating opportunities for students to acquire practical exposure, industry insights, and career pathways that align with the demands of modern manufacturing.
“APEX reflects our belief that developing talent is a shared responsibility,” said Mr. Ryu Kyeongwoo, President, SEMPHIL. “By strengthening our partnerships with academic institutions and training organizations, we hope to help equip future engineers and professionals with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive global environment.”
The initiative expands on SEMPHIL’s existing programs, including Dream Campus, which supports employees pursuing higher education; the Applied Industry-Based Technician Program developed with MFI Foundation; and the SEED Scholarship Program, which provides educational opportunities for deserving students pursuing engineering-related disciplines.
The launch also highlights the growing role of Laguna and the CALABARZON region as a center for advanced manufacturing and technological innovation. With the continued expansion of industrial locators and export-oriented industries, demand for highly skilled Filipino talent continues to rise across engineering, electronics, automation, and technical fields.
As one of the country's leading electronics manufacturing companies, SEMPHIL recognizes that investing in education is an investment in the long-term competitiveness of Philippine industry.
“Our goal extends beyond supporting individual student. We want to contribute to building a stronger talent pipeline that will help sustain the growth of Philippine manufacturing and create meaningful opportunities for future generations,” Mr. Kyeongwoo added.
Established in 1997, Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corporation is a subsidiary of Samsung Electro-Mechanics and one of the largest electronics manufacturing companies in the country. Based in Calamba, Laguna, the company employs thousands of Filipino workers and manufactures critical electronic components that support technologies used worldwide.
Through APEX, SEMPHIL reinforces its commitment to nurturing talent, supporting education, and helping create a future-ready workforce capable of driving innovation and excellence in Philippine manufacturing.
