Seasoned fashion designer Boyet Fajardo unveils his latest collection with Melanie Marquez

For many designers, the key to a lasting career in the industry doesn’t lie in following shifting trends, but in creating timeless designs that resonate across different stages of life. It is about putting the needs of their muse first, crafting clothes that become dependable companions. These are pieces that inspire, spark confidence, and, above all, create joyful experiences.

That has been Boyet Fajardo’s guiding principle when it comes to designing clothes. He wants his creations to be part of women’s everyday lives, not just their biggest moments. Throughout his career, the fashion designer has carved his name in the industry as a master of ready-to-wear and a pioneer in championing chic plus-size fashion, proving that style should be accessible to women of every shape and size.
Now, just two years shy of his golden anniversary as a designer, Boyet has once again crafted a collection that celebrates the female form and character, continuing his legacy as a prêt-à-porter impresario.
In creating the collection, Boyet drew inspiration from Japanese design—its structure, form, and interplay of patterns. The result is a line that is striking and bold, yet perfectly suited to an everyday approach to dressing.
“Japanese designs have always been part of my collections,” Boyet says. “They are timeless, geometric, linear, and dramatic.”
The collection features dresses, wraps, kimono tops, and palazzo pants, providing the perfect canvas for his signature patterns. Textiles are manipulated to create optical illusions, delicate floral motifs adorn richly colored pieces, while flounces and ruffles reflect the designer’s penchant for garments that move with the wearer.
To fully showcase the spirit of his latest collection, Boyet tapped his longtime muse and friend, Melanie Marquez. Together, they brought the designs to life, highlighting the effortless elegance, confidence, and inclusivity that have long defined the designer’s work.
“I was never excited about my photo shoots before, but now I am,” Boyet muses. “This collection highlights my 48 years in the fashion industry—through all the struggles—as my journey speaks volumes about my passion and the generations I’ve had the privilege to serve.”
This collection also serves as a reflection of Boyet’s enduring passion and resilience. In his more than four decades in the industry, he has faced numerous challenges. He was born with a visual impairment, adding another layer of difficulty to his work as a designer. In 2020, the pandemic also took a heavy toll on his business. Yet rather than allowing these setbacks to define him, Boyet chose to adapt and persevere. He trusted his instincts and talent and continued moving forward.
“I always want movement, constant movement, and never remain at a standstill, even during the global pandemic,” he says. “I’ll do the things I’ve been dreaming of doing all my life.”
That same mindset is woven into his latest collection, which he describes as both a celebration of craftsmanship and a milestone in his career. For Boyet, fashion has never been solely about creating beautiful clothes. It is about proving that perseverance and passion can outshine even the greatest obstacles. As he looks ahead, the designer remains guided by the same philosophy that has shaped his remarkable career.
“Compete only with yourself rather than with others to bring out the optimum in you,” he says. “Fashion is my passion, so the best is yet to come!”
Boyet’s latest collection will be available soon at Robinsons, SM, Landmark, and Sta. Lucia malls, KCC Malls in Mindanao, G Malls in the Visayas, and select department stores nationwide.
