The Quezon City government has warned that the permit granted for the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) rally along EDSA-White Plains may be canceled if organizers fail to comply with conditions set by authorities or if the gathering leads to public disorder.
Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (QC-DPOS) head Ret. Gen. Elmo San Diego said the rally was allowed to proceed along White Plains Avenue after organizers committed to maintaining order and preventing another road obstruction.
San Diego said authorities had informed organizers that any repeat of road blockage, public disturbance, or violation of the permit conditions could prompt the cancellation of the approval.
The Quezon City government approved on Tuesday, June 30, the INC’s request to hold the rally along White Plains Avenue to Temple Drive on Wednesday, July 1, following coordination with concerned government agencies.
Quezon City Administrator Mike Alimurung said the approval was granted after the group complied with the necessary coordination requirements, noting that a previous incident alone should not automatically be a basis for denying the request.
The QC-DPOS said it raised no objection to the conduct of a peaceful rally in the area from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., subject to compliance with the conditions imposed by authorities.
Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said the second day of the rally may draw a similar or higher number of participants compared with the previous gathering.
NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo said the crowd could reach or exceed the estimated 15,500 attendees recorded at the People Power Monument during the earlier activity, especially with the issuance of the permit.
