Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla assured that his office would investigate and prosecute any public official, regardless of rank, if evidence warrants legal action.
Speaking during the launch of the Office of the Ombudsman's Field Investigation Course, Remulla said investigators have the responsibility to uphold accountability in government and carry out their duties fairly and impartially.
“Mataas man o mababa, tatamaan sa atin pag mali ang ginawa (Whether high-ranking or low-ranking, anyone who has done wrong will face accountability from us),” he said.
He also said that investigators play a key role in addressing misconduct in government and ensuring that public officials answer for their actions.
“Pag may naliligaw ng landas, kailangan tayo ang magpakita at ituwid ang landas na bumabaluktot (When someone strays from the right path, it is our duty to show them the way and straighten what has gone astray),” he added.
Remulla said the Office of the Ombudsman is tasked not only with investigating erring public officials but also with helping strengthen integrity in public service.
He added that every fair and objective investigation contributes to building public confidence in government institutions and affirms that no one is above the law.
“‘Yun ang ating katungkulan na pinapanagutan at sinumpaan na lahat ay ating titignan. Iayos ang pag-iisip ng taumbayan tungkol at nauukol sa katatagan ng diwa bilang isang naglilingkod sa gobyerno (That is the duty we are accountable for and have sworn to uphold—that we will examine every case. We must help restore the public's confidence in the integrity and commitment of those who serve in government),” he said.
The Field Investigation Course seeks to strengthen the investigative capabilities of Ombudsman personnel by providing training on professional, objective, and evidence-based investigative practices in support of accountability and good governance.
