Ian de Leon hints at renewed communication with sister Matet amid family rift
Ian de Leon appeared to give followers a hopeful sign that communication lines between him and his younger sister Matet de Leon have reopened amid the public discussions surrounding their family.
In a Facebook post today (JUne 30), Ian tagged Matet and wrote: “Thank you so much for the wonderful conversation! God bless us and our family! @Matet.”
The brief post immediately caught the attention of fans who have been following the recent exchange among the children of the late National Artist for Film & Broascast Arts Nora Aunor.
Before Ian’s post, Matet also shared a throwback photo on her Facebook page showing Nora holding her when she was still a baby. In the photo, Matet was flanked by her siblings Lotlot de Leon and Ian.
The post contrasted with Matet’s earlier statement last week, which she has since deleted.
In the deleted post, Matet directly addressed Ian and said: “Para sa’yo, ‘kuya’ Ian, sana sinabi mo rin sa tao yung mga nagawa mong mali.”
She also denied that she and her siblings were after anything from their late mother.
“Na hindi totoong nangkakamkam kami. Sana hindi mo na e-enjoy ito. Sa tingin mo ba, deserve namin ’to?” Matet wrote.
Matet added that she and her siblings had been unfairly judged by some members of the public.
“Na winawalanghiya kami ng tao kahit alam mo kung sino at anong klaseng tao kami? Mukha kaming k**al kahit alam mong hindi,” she said.
She also indicated that she resorted to posting publicly because she felt they were not getting responses privately.
“Di kayo sumasagot sa chat eh. Dito na lang,” she wrote.
The recent posts of Ian and Matet drew positive reactions from fans, with some calling the development a “miracle” and others saying that, despite disagreements, family remains family.
Marie Cusi, a known Noranian leader, welcomed the apparent de-escalation of tension among Nora’s children.
“Let’s pray more. Happy si Ate Guy dito. May HIMALA. Listen more to your hearts and don’t listen to others to separate you. Family love is FOREVER,” she said.
The issue among the late Nora Aunor's children became a subject of public interest after Ian spoke in interviews about matters involving his late mother’s legacy, including the creation of a one-person corporation connected to Nora Aunor Enterprise and the Nora Aunor Foundation.
Ian has said that the structure was meant to help manage and protect Nora’s legacy, and that he would be fair to his siblings. However, his statements drew reactions from Lotlot and Matet, who both objected to the impression that they were after their mother’s inheritance.
Ian’s latest post mentioning a “wonderful conversation” with Matet may be seen as a small but meaningful development.
Neither Ian nor Matet has publicly disclosed what they discussed. But for many fans who have watched the issue unfold, the recent postings of the siblings - with the exception of Lotlot - offered a sign that they are now taking steps to speak to each other privately.
