ILOILO CITY – A gun was seized from a Grade 10 student in Barotac Nuevo town in Iloilo province.
The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) said that authorities retrieved a .38 caliber revolver with six bullets from a 15-year-old boy inside the high school on Tuesday, June 30.
A teacher was informed that the student may have a gun in his possession.
The student was taken to the guidance counselor’s office which informed the Barotac Nuevo Municipal Police Station led by Police Capt. Francis John Layog.
Police Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, IPPO spokesperson, said that police recovered the gun found inside the bag of the student.
Solis said they are coordinating with the Department of Education (DepEd) to determine where the student got the gun, who owns it, and what was the motive of bringing it to school.
As a minor, the student was turned over to the Barotac Nuevo Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
The Police Regional Office-6 lauded the strong coordination between police and DepEd.
“This incident shows that the good coordination between our schools and the police is effective. If there is a situation that could affect the security of our youth, it is very important to report it to the authorities in order to avoid possible danger,” said PRO-6 Director Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño.
Due to the incident, a rigid school checkpoint was conducted on Wednesday, July 1.
