TUPAD, the Department of Labor and Employment’s emergency job program, offers 10 days of community service to displaced workers, vulnerable individuals, and marginalized groups.
Each participant will earn P6,000 after completing two weeks of work, based on the minimum wage of P600 per day. Salaries will be released through remittance centers.
Manuel Torres, a 45-year-old fisherman from Hagonoy, said he joined to buy rice, medicine for his mother, and materials for his boat.
“Minsan hindi ako makalaot kapag malakas ang hangin at mataas ang tubig. Kaya ako sumali dito, extra kita rin (Sometimes I can’t go out to sea when the wind is strong and the water is high. That’s why I joined here, for extra income too),” he shared.
Charina Jose, 36, a food maker from Baliwag, also joined to support her three children’s education.
“I don’t have a permanent job,” she said, adding that the program will help ease her family’s expenses.
Governor Daniel R. Fernando, through his representative Micahdel Trine, said the program is important because it provides temporary jobs while families continue to recover.
