SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – Not even death prevented the Cherilyn Cahilig from “marching” at the graduation day of University of Antique (UA) Tario Lim Campus in Tibiao town on Monday.
Cahilig was supposed to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree but was killed in a vehicular accident while on her way home to Barangay Bagacay from Lipata Port in Culasi on May 29.
Her teachers and classmates ensured she was part of the ceremony by preparing a standee, which was carried by her father, Cesar, during the procession and when he received her diploma.
“Cherilyn had big dreams for our family. She wanted us to rise from poverty,” younger brother, Cerino, said in an interview on Tuesday.
They went to school together at UA, where Cerino is in junior year, taking up Bachelor of Science in Information Systems.
“I hope that I could work right after graduation in order to help our family and siblings graduate,” he said.
He has two younger siblings, who are both in high school. Their father is a farmer while their mother is a housewife. (PNA)
