The Philippines, through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), has expressed grave concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz, and urged all parties involved to uphold the initial peace agreement and pursue a negotiated diplomatic solution.
In a statement issued on June 29, the DFA called on all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from actions that could derail ongoing peace efforts.
“The Philippines is gravely concerned with the recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz and the reported attacks in the Middle East,” the DFA said in a statement.
The statement came amid renewed tensions following reports of attacks on two commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a significant portion of the world's oil supply passes.
International media also reported subsequent military actions involving the United States and Iran, including drone and missile strikes targeting U.S. military assets stationed in Kuwait and Bahrain. These incidents have heightened concerns over regional security and the potential impact on global energy markets and international shipping.
The Philippine government reiterated its support for the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, emphasizing the need for all parties to avoid further escalation.
“We continue to urge all involved parties to remain committed to the initial peace agreement and pursue constructive dialogue in finding a negotiated diplomatic solution to the conflict, as well as refrain from actions that could undermine the progress of the peace talks,” the DFA added.
