All minimum wage workers in Metro Manila will receive a P85 increase in their daily wage, the highest increase approved so far according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
DOLE Secretary Francis Tolentino said the increase in the daily wage will benefit around 1.1 minimum wage earners in Metro Manila and may likewise be enjoyed by around 1.9 million full time workers in the metropolis who earn more than the minimum wage.
“I am happy to announce this morning that we will increase the salary of all workers in Metro Manila to a historic P85 increase,” said Tolentino during a consultation meeting with workers at the Malabon Public Market.
“This will benefit 1.1 million daily wage earners in Metro Manila,” he added.
Tolentino said the increase will be given in two tranches— P60 increase effective July 19 this year and P25 in January next year.
So from the current P695 per day, Tolentino said it will become P780 for those working in the non-agricultural sector once the increase is fully implemented next year.
For the agricultural sector that includes those working in the public market, retail establishments with under 15 employees and manufacturing establishments with 10 and below employees, it would become P743 per day.
Tolentino said the wage increase was pushed by President Marcos himself in order to give dignity to workers amid the increase of basic goods and services.
He also expressed gratitude to major business and employers’ groups for supporting what he described as a balanced wage increase acceptable to the business sector.
