AboitizPower completes third Pangasinan solar plant, expands RE portfolio
The renewable energy (RE) arm of Aboitiz Power Corp. (AboitizPower) has expanded its solar portfolio with the completion of its 92.55-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar plant in Pangasinan province.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 30, Aboitiz Renewables Inc. (ARI) said it had completed the San Manuel solar power plant, marking its third solar development in Pangasinan alongside the 154-MWp Laoag 1 and 2 and 94-MWp Cayanga-Bugallon power plants.
The new solar facility supplies electricity directly to Luzon grid through the San Manuel 69-kilovolt (kV) substation in coordination with National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), local government units (LGUs), and host communities.
Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, who attended the inauguration, said the project would help provide local communities with access to stable, renewable power.
“Every panel on this 92.5-MW solar plant is a promise kept—to the families who deserve stable, affordable electricity; to the workers who built something lasting right here in their own community; and to the next generation who will inherit the energy choices we make today,” Garin said.
AboitizPower President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Danel Aboitiz said the project would further strengthen the country’s energy system, adding that “we believe reliable, accessible, and affordable power is key to national progress.”
“One way we contribute to this is by steadily expanding our RE portfolio, from around 900 MW in 2020 to 2.3 gigawatts (GW) of attributable net sellable capacity today,” Aboitiz added.
ARI’s portfolio now includes 45 RE facilities nationwide, comprising solar, hydropower, geothermal, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The company also has about 1,800 MW of projects in its development pipeline.
AboitizPower plans to invest ₱62 billion to accelerate the expansion of its RE portfolio, targeting about 639.5 MW of new projects and an additional 147 MW of RE capacity paired with BESS. - Gabriell Christel Galang
