4 dead as truck rams wake in Quezon

PAGBILAO, Quezon – Four people were killed and 11 were injured after a truck rammed a wake in Sitio Tumpukan, Barangay Ibabang Palsabangon, this town, on Monday night, June 29.
The fatalities were identified as Donita Lucing, John Marvin Ruz, 36; Reonilito de Chavez, 45, and Aldegunda Coronel, 70.
Police said that two fatalities died on the spot as they were trapped under the truck and two were declared dead in a hospital.
Investigation said truck driver and helper Gilboy Enojasa fell asleep while driving. Enojasa lost control of the truck that swerved and crashed into the wake.
He had earlier relieved fellow driver Rene Pascua when the incident occurred. They were both injured.
A tricycle, house, and tables and chairs owned by the barangay in the wake were damaged.
Police are conducting follow-up investigation.
Meanwhile, 13 individuals were injured after their van collided with a pick-up truck on Sunday at the intersection of Candelaria bypass road in Barangay Malabanban Sur, Candelaria, Quezon.
The victims were taken to the hospital. Police said negotiations for an amicable settlement are ongoing between both sides.
