ILOILO CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) reported Monday that 141,880 seedlings were planted in 151 hectares in Western Visayas during the Arbor Day celebration on June 25.
Antique planted 48,689 seedlings; Iloilo, 37,692; Aklan, 30,489; Capiz, 19,371; and Guimaras, 5,630 seedlings.
Nearly 9,000 volunteers were tapped to plant native trees such as narra, malabago, and tapuyay and mangrove seedlings, fruit trees, and high-value crops in 211 sites.
“Beyond Arbor Day, we hope to inculcate a deep love for trees and the environment. One tree at a time, we can build a more climate-resilient future for the generations to come,” said DENR-6 OIC Regional Director Atty. Ramar Niel V. Pascua.
The activity was part of actions to combat the impact of climate change.
