Marikina vice mayor vows cooperation in fatal road crash probe
By Hannah Nicol
Marikina Vice Mayor Del De Guzman said he and his son are willing to cooperate with authorities and the family of the victim as the investigation into the fatal road crash continues.
In a statement from the Office of the Vice Mayor, De Guzman extended his condolences and apologized to the family of Alexander Cruz, who died after a road crash in Marikina City.
De Guzman said that, as a father, he understands the pain, grief, and suffering of the Cruz family over the loss of a child.
He also said no words would be enough to ease the family’s burden during this difficult time.
The vice mayor explained that their silence in the past days was not due to lack of concern, but out of respect for the family and to avoid affecting the ongoing investigation.
He also apologized to the Cruz family and to all those who were hurt and affected by the tragedy.
“Buong-loob kaming makikipagtulungan, kasama ang aking anak, sa pamilya Cruz at sa mga kinauukulang awtoridad (My son and I are fully willing to cooperate with the Cruz family and the concerned authorities),” the statement said.
On June 20, Cruz, a 27-year-old teacher and motorcycle rider, died after he was hit by a sport utility vehicle allegedly driven by the vice mayor's son in Marikina City .
The incident happened on June 13 at the corner of Gen. Ordoñez and Russet streets in Barangay Concepcion Dos.
