Marikina City Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro has ordered increased deployment of police and local security personnel, along with the distribution of metal detectors, to reinforce safety in public and private schools starting Monday, June 29.
The move comes after recent reports of student-related violence in schools across the country.
Teodoro noted that while police and Office of Public Safety and Security (OPSS) personnel were already stationed at campuses, the local government is determined to further strengthen protocols to reassure parents.
As part of the initiative, 70 newly hired OPSS personnel were welcomed to bolster public safety operations.
Roving police patrols will also be deployed around private campuses in coordination with the Marikina Private Schools Association, Inc.
“It is our duty and responsibility to ensure learners not only receive good education, but are, most importantly, safe in the confines of their schools,” Teodoro said, stressing that campuses must remain safe havens for the city’s youth. (Selena Atun)
