Being true to yourself takes courage.
With this in mind, House Speaker Isabela 6th district Rep. Faustino "Bojie" Dy III gave a warm greeting to members of the LGBTQIA+ community on the occasion of Pride Month.
"Ngayong Pride Month, ipinagdiriwang natin ang tapang ng pagiging totoo sa sarili at ang karapatan ng bawat isa na mamuhay nang may dignidad, respeto, at pantay na oportunidad," Dy said over the weekend.
(This Pride Month, we celebrate the courage of being true to oneself and the right of every person to live with dignity, respect, and equal opportunity.)
Dy espoused the message that everyone--regardless of origin, beliefs, or identity--had a place in society.
The House leader thumbed down discrimination, which he described as contrary to the modern way of life.
"Walang sinuman ang dapat makaranas ng diskriminasyon o pangmamaliit sapagkat sa isang makatarungan at makabagong bansa, ang paggalang sa dignidad ng tao ay hindi pribilehiyo ng iilan kundi karapatan ng lahat."
(No one should experience discrimination or belittlement, because in a just and modern nation, respect for human dignity is not the privilege of a few but the right of all.)
"Equality means ensuring that every person is seen, heard, respected, and given the opportunity to thrive. When people are free to live authentically and contribute their talents without fear or prejudice, our communities become stronger, more compassionate, and more united," Dy said.
Pride Month is celebrated every month of June. This global observance honors the history, achievements, and rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, with major marches and festivities typically taking place throughout the month.
"Ang selebrasyon pong ito ay paalala na ang pagkakapantay-pantay ay nagsisimula sa pag-unawa, ang pagtanggap ay nagsisimula sa malasakit, at ang pagkakaisa ay nabubuo kapag kinikilala natin ang pagkatao ng bawat isa," said the Isabela lawmaker.
(This celebration is a reminder that equality begins with understanding, acceptance begins with compassion, and unity is built when we recognize each person’s humanity.)
"Happy Pride Month po sa ating mga kapatid (Happy Pride Month to our brothers and sisters). Together, let us build a more inclusive, compassionate, and equitable future for all," the Speaker further said.
