BACOLOD CITY – A 14-year-old Grade 8 student was allegedly stabbed and injured by his 12-year-old schoolmate near their school in Barangay Sum-ag here on Monday, June 29.
Police Capt. Greeky Cayao, head of Police Station 9, said that a fistfight erupted between the victim and the Grade 7 suspect following eye-to-eye contact after class dismissal past 4 p.m..
During the melee, the suspect grabbed a pointed object on the ground and stabbed the victim in the body. The victim also sustained a laceration in the hand, Cayao said.
The suspect said he had no intention to harm the victim who is a stranger to him.
The suspect is in the custody of the barangay social worker while the victim is recuperating in a hospital.
The suspect dumped the weapon and police are locating it.
Cayao said they have coordinated with the school regarding the students. Authorities have yet to talk to their parents. Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
Violence among students were reported in the province last week – a stabbing incident in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental involving a Grade 9 and Grade 10 student and an online shooting threat from a 14-year-old student in Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
