Envisioning the cities of tomorrow

Published Jun 29, 2026 08:00 pm
As Manila Bulletin Property & Living marks its anniversary this June, the section presents a special feature, “Cities of Tomorrow,” exploring the future of urban living. Bringing together insights from leaders across the real estate, design, and home sectors, the feature poses a timely question: What does a city of tomorrow look like, and what qualities and innovations will define the next generation of communities?
For this special forum, we hear from Alsons Dev President Miguel Dominguez, Sta. Lucia Land President Exequiel Robles, Landco President and CEO Erickson Manzano, Ortigas Land Vice President and Residential Business Unit Head Jenna Belardo, Our Home Business Unit Head and Senior Vice President Roy Tan, and Dexterton President and CEO Audrey Go-Liu, who share their perspectives on shaping future-ready cities.
'A city of tomorrow is one that remains livable and relevant across generations by integrating thoughtful innovations with place- based, community- centered development that supports long-term growth and quality of life.
'Sustainability, climate resilience, and economic vitality are the foundations of a city of tomorrow, strengthened by continuous innovation in how communities are built and connected.
'At Alsons Dev, we are guided by these principles as we create communities that are designed not only for today's needs, but for the generations that will call them home in the years ahead.'
'To me, a city of tomorrow is one that creates lasting value for generations by balancing economic progress, environmental stewardship, and the wellbeing of its people. It is not simply a collection of buildings and infrastructure, but a thriving, connected, and resilient community where people can live, work, learn, and enjoy life in a sustainable manner.
'At Sta. Lucia Land, we believe that the future of urban development lies in creating master-planned residential communities that are sustainable, connected, and centered on people. The city of tomorrow is one that not only meets the needs of today but also empowers future generations to live better lives. It is a city built not just for growth, but for enduring prosperity and shared progress.'
'The city of tomorrow will be highly technologically- advanced, heavy on sustainability where we get our power from nature and practically recycle and reuse almost everything. But it will also be properly planned, heavily anchored on what makes us human: generous spaces for wellness, leisure, relaxation, and genuine human connections. Because no matter how advanced we become, you cannot Al a 'Life on Vacation.'
'To me, that's a city that makes everyday life easier and better.
'It's a place where people don't have to choose between being productive, staying connected, and having time for themselves and their families. These things should all be part of the same experience.
'At Estancia, we're seeing that come together in a very real way. People can live, work, dine, shop, and spend time outdoors without having to go far. There's a strong sense of community, plenty of open spaces, and soon, even better connectivity through the subway. The goal is simple: spend less time in transit and more time on the things that actually matter.'
'A city of tomorrow is one that creates better ways of living. Beyond modern infrastructure and technological advancements, it is a city that enables people, families, and communities to live well, connect meaningfully, and thrive. Its success is measured not only by growth, but also by the quality of life it creates every day.
'A city of tomorrow is connected, sustainable, resilient, and inclusive. It invests in infrastructure and innovation while creating spaces that support how people live, work, gather, and grow. Ultimately, it is a city designed not just for progress, but also for better living- where opportunities, communities, and homes evolve together.'
'The city of tomorrow is one where good design is finally democratic-where beautiful, intentional spaces are not an accident of address but a standard every Filipino family can expect.'
