Dolly de Leon debuts in Netflix's 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Season 2, earns praise from fans

Award-winning Filipino actress Dolly de Leon has joined the cast of Netflix's live-action series "Avatar: The Last Airbender," making her debut in the second season as twin sisters Lo and Li.

De Leon first appeared in the season premiere, portraying the trusted advisers and firebending mentors of Fire Nation Princess Azula. The role marks the first time in her career that she has played twin characters.

Soon after the season premiered globally on June 25, Filipino fans took to social media to celebrate the actress' appearance in one of Netflix's biggest fantasy franchises.

Many viewers praised De Leon's performance, with some saying she perfectly captured the personalities of Lo and Li, while others expressed pride in seeing another Filipino actor land a prominent role in a major international production.

Netflix Philippines also highlighted De Leon's debut by sharing scenes from the series on Instagram, playfully describing her portrayal of the twins as "peak Marites tita representation," a post that quickly drew enthusiastic reactions from fans.

In an earlier statement released by Netflix, De Leon said joining the live-action adaptation of the beloved animated series was a career milestone.

"I'm extremely excited and honored to be part of an iconic live-action version of an animated cult classic. It's my first time to play twins, which is the best fun in a creative process. It's a dream come true," she said.

The role further expands De Leon's growing list of international projects following her acclaimed performance in the Oscar-nominated film "Triangle of Sadness," which brought her global recognition in 2022.

Since then, she has continued building her international career with roles in television and animation, including the second season of "Nine Perfect Strangers" and DreamWorks' upcoming animated film "Forgotten Island," where she lends her voice to Lola Fatima.
