South Korean actor Choi Woo-shik has publicly apologized after a fan accused him of ignoring her request for an autograph during a recent event in Paris, sparking allegations of racial bias on social media.
Taking to social media on Sunday, Choi responded directly to the fan, expressing regret and explaining that he was unable to accommodate everyone because of time constraints.
"Sorry if I missed you! I tried to sign as many autographs as I could, but time was just too short. I really hope we can meet again next time!" he wrote, adding a smiling emoji.
The controversy began after a fan posted a video online claiming Choi refused to sign her autograph while greeting others at a fashion show in Paris. She alleged that she was the only Black fan seeking his autograph at the time and accused the actor of deliberately overlooking her.
As criticism spread online, Choi addressed the issue through a fan communication platform, saying the incident was a misunderstanding and promising to explain further.
Additional videos taken at the event later circulated on social media, showing Choi smiling, interacting with, and signing autographs for other Black fans.
Choi is currently filming the upcoming drama "Gorae Byul — The Gyeongseong Mermaid," an adaptation of the popular webtoon set during Korea's Japanese colonial period. He stars as the male lead.
