CAMP TIRSO H. GADOR, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – A 28-year-old soldier was arrested for alleged indiscriminate firing in Barangay Luzon, Claveria, Cagayan, before dawn on Sunday, June 28.
Police identified the suspect as Bugoy, married, and a resident of Calanasan, Apayao.
Investigation said suspect reportedly arrived in his brother-in-law’s house and challenged him to come out and fight. He received no response and fired several gunshots before fleeing aboard a gray vehicle towards Abulug, Cagayan.
The victim’s wife, who is also the suspect’s sister, said they were awakened the commotion and gunshots.
Police recovered six spent 5.56-mm cartridge cases, three spent .45-caliber cartridge cases, and one live 5.56-mm round.
Lawmen apprehended the suspect in Barangay Centro 8, Claveria.
The suspect yielded an M16 rifle, a caliber .22 rifle with a scope, a caliber .45 pistol, magazines, bullets, bolo, mission order, an Armed Forces identification card, a License to Own and Possess Firearms card, an Army uniform, war belt, a bandolier, a sling bag, and the vehicle.
The suspect was taken to the Claveria police station for documentation and the filing of appropriate charges.
Police Col. Mardito G. Anguluan, director of the Cagayan Police Provincial Office, commended responding personnel for their swift action.
The Cagayan Police Provincial Office urged the public to immediately report suspicious activities or incidents to the nearest police station or through Unified 911 to ensure prompt police response and maintain peace and order in communities.
