Scattered rains, thunderstorms to persist due to 'habagat,' LPA — PAGASA

The southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” and a low-pressure area (LPA 06d) east of Mindanao are likely to drench parts of the country in the next few days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, June 28.
Over the next 24 hours, PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said the habagat will bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.
Meanwhile, LPA 06d was estimated at 890 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao as of 3 a.m. Sunday.
It is expected to continue moving westward and bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.
“Bagamat hindi natin inaalis ‘yung posibilidad na puwede po ito maging bagyo sa mga susunod na araw, pero at least in the next 24 hours medyo maliit pa ‘yung posibilidad na ito ay maging bagyo (While we are not ruling out the possibility that it could develop into a tropical cyclone in the coming days, the chance of it becoming one within the next 24 hours remains low),” Badrina said.
He said the LPA is expected to continue moving westward and may develop into a tropical cyclone after crossing the central Philippines.
From Monday to Tuesday, June 29 to 30, PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
From Wednesday to Thursday, July 1 to 2, the habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the western section of Luzon and the Visayas.
Badrina warned residents in affected areas to remain vigilant against possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains.
