The new United States Ambassador to the Philippines, Lee Lipton, has arrived in Manila, the US Embassy announced on Sunday, June 28.
This marks the start of Lipton's tour of duty in the country, replacing former US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson.
"Mabuhay and welcome back to the Philippines, U.S. Ambassador Lee Lipton! We look forward to your leadership as we continue to mark #USPH80 and #Freedom250. #FriendsPartnersAllies," the US Embassy said in a post on social media.
According to the US Department of State, Lipton has served since January 2025 as Chief of Staff to the US Mission to the Organization of American States (OAS) where he helped lead US engagement on a range of regional challenges, including the deteriorating security situation in Haiti, and efforts to counter malign influence - particularly from the Chinese Communist Party within the Inter-American System.
Lipton was a businessman before becoming a public servant.
The US Department of State said his 50 years of experience in the private sector influenced his diplomatic role, bringing a solid business-to-business perspective to US engagement at the OAS, championing economic engagement, institutional efficiency, and multilateral cooperation in support of regional stability and prosperity.
US President Donald Trump confirmed his nomination to the post in Manila in May.
In a statement in May, Lipton said his goal will be "to deepen US–Philippine security cooperation, strengthen supply chains, advance the Luzon Economic Corridor initiative, and promote fair and transparent trade through close and continuing engagements with this (US Senate Foreign Affairs) Committee, the US Interagency, and our Philippine Allies."
Before entering public service, Lipton developed and led a successful business in New York City. He oversaw the design, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of licensed collections for globally recognized brands such as Calvin Klein, St. John Knits, and Guess. After selling his company to a publicly traded firm, he transitioned into the hospitality industry, owning several oceanfront restaurants. His landmark restaurants remain among the highest-volume establishments in Palm Beach County, Florida.
Lipton holds a bachelor's degree from Bryant University. He and his wife of 42 years have two sons.
