ILOILO CITY – Iloilo-based MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) is seeking the normalization of power supply in the Visayas, which experienced rotational power blackouts and rising cost of electricity for more than a month.
MORE Power Energy Sourcing Manager Raphael Dorilag said it is imperative that major power generation companies address problems soon.
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed Visayas on yellow alert since May 2026 due to outages of three major power plants – two in Cebu and one in Iloilo.
MORE Power data showed that it lost more than 428,308.60 kilowatt-hour (kWh) since May 13 with the repeated yellow alerts.
Low power supply is affecting prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). Prices have more than doubled from P4.45/kWh to P10.30/kWh. This was the same for generation charge now pegged at P7.735/kWh from the mere P2.10/ kWh.
MORE Power is looking for cheapest power sources from bilateral suppliers to offset the high rates at WESM. Consumers in Iloilo were urged to use electricity wisely as power generation problems continue.
