Lava effusion was recorded from Mayon Volcano’s summit crater as its effusive eruption continued for the 173rd consecutive day, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Saturday, June 27.
In an update on Saturday, June 27, Phivolcs released time-lapse footage and still images showing lava effusion from Mayon’s summit crater from 9:41 p.m. to 11:19 p.m. on Friday, June 26, and at 2:39 a.m. and 2:44 a.m. on Saturday, June 27.
The activity was captured by Phivolcs Quick Response.
According to the agency, the continuing effusive eruption has generated incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), locally known as “uson,” and rockfall events.
Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Mayon Volcano, it noted.
Phivolcs said entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone must remain prohibited.
Residents near the volcano were also advised to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of local disaster risk reduction and management offices.
