Police solved on Friday, June 26, the attempt to kill a businessman who was ambushed after attending his college graduation ceremony in Pantukan, Davao de Oro with the arrest of three people, including an ex-policeman and a woman.
Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the operation is still ongoing against the fourth suspect who was tagged as among the persons who planned the attempt to kill the victim.
The 29-year old businessman had just attended a graduation ceremony for a degree in Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) at the Kolehiyo ng Pantukan when he was repeatedly shot along national highway in Barangay Kingking.
He was wounded but survived the attack. Initial investigation revealed that the attack was motivated by a personal grudge.
“We committed to solve this crime, and we honor that commitment by the immediate arrest of those involved. I commend all our personnel involved in this operation for a job well done,” said Nartatez.
Police immediately conducted investigation and hot pursuit based on the information obtained from the victim and other witnesses, and assessment and analysis of digital forensics.
Those arrested were a 35-year old man who was identified by the victim as the gunman, a 34-year old dismissed policeman and a 25-year old woman. The three suspects were seen inside a minivan which served as a getaway car.
Seized from them were a .45 pistol and the gray Suzuki minivan.
“The arrest of the suspects in this crime is proof of the efficiency of proper supervision of police operations and proper conduct of investigative and operational procedures,” said Nartatez.
The three arrested suspects are now under police custody while police investigators are now preparing the pieces of evidence to ensure an airtight case against all those involved in the incident.
Police are also investigating if the same suspects are also the people behind in an earlier shooting involving a relative of the victim.
