CEBU CITY – From council session to detention.
This is the situation that two barangay councilors are facing after they were arrested for illegal drugs in separate police operations.
In Asturias town, western Cebu, a 41-year-old barangay councilor was arrested in a buy-bust operation on Friday afternoon, June 26.
Police said the suspect was a high-value individual. Seized during the operation was 22 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P149,600.
Lawmen said that as councilor of Barangay Bago, the suspect headed its Peace and Order Committee.
In Mandaue City, Cebu, a 43-year-old barangay councilor from Lapu-Lapu City was arrested after for allegedly possessing packs of suspected shabu during a police checkpoint on Thursday night, June 25.
Police said a motorcycle driven by the suspect was flagged down on A.C. Cortes Ave. in Barangay Cambaro. During the routine inspection, police sensed that the suspect was acting uneasy.
The village official was instructed to empty his pockets that led to the discovery of two sachets of suspected shabu. The barangay councilor was arrested.
Police learned that the suspect is a councilor in Barangay Poblacion and serves as the barangay’s Peace and Order Committee chairperson.
