Quezon City High School saw long queues at its entrance on Friday, June 26, after stricter gate inspections were introduced to strengthen campus security.
The tightened screening is part of broader safety reviews following a shooting in Tacloban City, Leyte, that killed three minors and prompted education authorities and local governments to reassess public school security.
Under the new system, students must place their bags in front of them before reaching the gate for faster inspection. However, the measure has caused congestion during peak morning arrivals.
Quezon City officials had earlier reinforced school security as a preventive step, while the Department of Education continues to evaluate vulnerabilities, including perimeter access points such as fences.
Students and guardians said the longer queues have disrupted morning routines, with some leaving home earlier to avoid delays.
School authorities have yet to announce further adjustments as the community adapts to the stricter procedures.
