PetroGreen nears commercial launch for three green energy projects
Yuchengco-led PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) advanced three major clean energy projects closer to full commercial operations after securing regulatory and market approvals over the past two months.
In a statement on Friday, June 26, the company announced that its subsidiary, PetroWind Energy Inc., secured a market commercial operation date of June 26 from the Independent Energy Market Operator of the Philippines.
The clearance covers the 13.56-megawatt Nabas-2 wind expansion project in Aklan province. The wind farm, which qualified under the government’s first Green Energy Auction program with an approved tariff of ₱5.755 per kilowatt-hour, previously obtained a provisional authority to operate from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
The parent firm is also expanding its solar footprint across Luzon. The ERC granted a certificate of compliance on June 8 to BKS Green Energy Corp. for its 33.831-megawatt-peak Limbauan-2 solar power project in Isabela. As an eligible facility under the second round of the Green Energy Auction, Limbauan-2 is awaiting a separate commercial confirmation for its participation in the wholesale electricity spot market. The subsidiary filed its generating facility application with the market operator on June 18.
In Pangasinan, another unit, Bugallon Green Energy Corp., secured regulator approval for the dedicated point-to-point grid connection of its 25-megawatt-peak Bugallon solar plant.
The facility, also a winner in the second auction round, has been undergoing grid compliance testing with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines since its commissioning phase started in April.
The pipeline of projects is expected to significantly bolster the parent firm's domestic capacity and financial positioning upon completion, according to the company.
The approvals over the past two months bring the three projects closer to full commercial operations, according to Dave P. Gadiano, PetroGreen assistant vice president for power markets.
Their full operation will add capacity to the company's renewable portfolio, increase its revenue stream, and deepen its reliability for meeting service contract and auction commitments to the Department of Energy, Gadiano said in the statement. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
