The Parañaque City government will install metal detectors in all public schools as part of heightened security measures aimed at protecting students, teachers, and school personnel following the recent fatal shooting incident inside a school campus in Tacloban City.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the initiative is intended to strengthen security in schools and prevent weapons from being brought onto campuses.
He emphasized that the safety of students, teachers, and non-teaching personnel is the city government’s top priority.
Olivarez explained that metal detectors will help school authorities screen individuals entering school premises and serve as a deterrent against those who may attempt to bring knives, firearms, or other deadly weapons inside educational institutions.
According to the mayor, the installation of metal detectors is part of the city government's proactive efforts to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for everyone in Parañaque's public schools.
The move comes in the wake of the shooting incident at a school in Tacloban City, which has prompted several local government units to reassess and strengthen security protocols in educational institutions.
