Jeonghan of K-pop boy band Seventeen is set to be discharged from military service on June 25, becoming the first member of the group to complete South Korea’s mandatory military duty.
The 30-year-old singer served for one year and nine months as a social service agent after enlisting on Sept. 26, 2024.
His discharge marks a significant milestone for Seventeen as the group navigates a period in which several members are fulfilling their military obligations.
Wonwoo is currently serving as a social service agent, while Hoshi and Woozi are enlisted as active-duty soldiers. Other members, including Mingyu, Vernon, DK, Seungkwan and Dino, are expected to enlist in the coming years.
Jeonghan's return comes as Seventeen members have openly discussed the group's future during military service. At the group's "Carat Land" fan meeting, Mingyu expressed optimism about what lies ahead.
“When we return in two to three years, I think that’s when our second chapter will truly begin,” he said, according to The Korea Herald.
Leader S.Coups also thanked supporters who have followed the group throughout its career.
Under South Korean law, most able-bodied men are required to complete military service, leading many K-pop groups to temporarily scale back activities as members enlist.
With Jeonghan's discharge, fans are looking forward to seeing the singer resume activities while awaiting the gradual return of Seventeen's other members from service.
