Ombudsman orders Cayetano, Padilla, Aplasca to answer obstruction of justice complaint

The Office of the Ombudsman has directed Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Robin Padilla, along with former Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca, to answer a complaint filed by Tindig Pilipinas in connection with events involving Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa at the Senate last month.
In an order dated June 23, the Ombudsman’s Preliminary Investigation, Administrative Adjudication, and Monitoring Office (PAMO) directed the respondents to submit their counter-affidavits and controverting evidence within a non-extendible period of 15 days from receipt of the order.
Tindig Pilipinas’ complaint, filed on June 3, accused the respondents of obstruction of justice in relation to the incident involving Dela Rosa.
“Acting on the sworn complaint, the above-named respondents are hereby directed to submit their counter-affidavit/s and controverting evidence to the said complaint,” the order stated.
The respondents were also ordered to furnish copies of their submissions to Tindig Pilipinas.
The complainant may file a reply-affidavit within five days from receipt of the counter-affidavits.
The Ombudsman said that if the respondents fail to submit their counter-affidavits within the prescribed period despite due notice, the complaint would be deemed submitted for resolution and no further pleadings or documents would be entertained.
