A 42-year-old businesswoman was arrested in Pasay City after allegedly selling a counterfeit gold necklace worth P191,000.

Pasay City Police chief Col. Jselito De Sesto identified the suspect only as “Divine,” a resident of Pampanga.

She was apprehended on June 23 at the ground floor of a shopping mall in Barangay 183 after the victim initiated a citizen’s arrest.

Police said the suspect claimed the necklace was genuine gold, but a jewelry appraiser later confirmed it was fake. The victim confronted the suspect and turned her over to patrolling officers.

Authorities recovered the counterfeit necklace, and the suspect is now detained at the Pasay City Police custodial facility.

She faces charges of estafa through fraudulent misrepresentation under Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code.

Police reminded the public to be cautious when buying expensive jewelry and to have items authenticated by reputable appraisers before completing transactions.
