A 911 emergency call led to the swift arrest of a 38-year-old man who threatened and challenged residents to a fight while armed with a 9mm pistol in Las Piñas City on Tuesday, June 24.
Las Piñas City Police chief Col. Ricky Neron identified the suspect only as “Joseph.”
According to Neron, the suspect was apprehended at around 3:12 p.m. on Numbers Street in BF Martinville after personnel from the CAA Substation were dispatched by the national 911 hotline to respond to the incident.
Responding officers arrived to find the commotion already subdued. The suspect voluntarily surrendered without resistance.
Police recovered a 9mm pistol, one magazine, and 12 live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect presented a Firearms Registration Identification Card, a License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF), and a Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR).
However, authorities said the authenticity and validity of the documents, as well as the legal status of the firearm, are still under verification.
The suspect is currently detained at the police custodial facility and faces a complaint for grave threats.
Additional charges may be filed depending on the outcome of the ongoing verification.
Neron commended the swift response of the officers and stressed the importance of the 911 emergency hotline in ensuring public safety and preventing incidents from escalating into violence.
