CEBU CITY – A 48-year-old man was killed and 16 others were injured in a three-vehicle smashup in Alicia town, Bohol province, on Thursday morning, June 25.
Killed on the spot in the accident, which happened around 8:30 a.m. on an intersection in Barangay Poblacion, was the driver of a Suzuki Smash motorcycle.
The injured individuals were the 53-year-old driver and the 36-year-old conductor of a bus; two bus passengers, aged 22 and 36, and the 38-year-old driver of the tourist van and his 11 passengers.
Investigation by the Alicia municipal police station showed that the bus was hit by the tourist van. The impact caused the bus to swerve to the opposite lane and hit a motorcycle parked on the side of the road.
The fatality was sitting on his motorcycle waiting for his wife when he was hit by the wayward bus.
Police said the van was transporting tourists to the Chocolate Hills in Barangay Luan, Candijay, Bohol when the accident occurred.
Police said a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide will be filed against the bus driver.
A separate charge for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries will be filed against the driver of the van.
