Vigan City regulates e-bikes, e-trikes starting July 1
LAOAG CITY – The Vigan City government, through its Public Safety and Traffic Management Division, announced that starting July 1, the use of electric vehicles in the city will be strictly regulated.
According to the new rules approved by City Ordinance No. 9, e-vehicle drivers need to be at least 18-years-old, and their vehicles must be roadworthy with appropriate safety features.
“This ordinance aims to ensure safer roads, better traffic management, and public safety as the use of e-bikes, e-scooters, e-trikes, e-motorcycles, and other electric vehicles continues to grow in the city,” the Vigan City government said in a statement Wednesday.
E-vehicle users must drive responsibly to avoid penalties ranging from P200 for first offense to P1,000 for third offense by following parking rules and traffic laws, not overloading passengers, wearing helmets on two-wheeled vehicles, and avoiding mobile phone use, alcohol, or drugs while driving.
“Let us work together to keep Vigan safe, orderly and pedestrian-friendly,” the Vigan City government added.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Vigan recently approved the electric vehicle ordinance after observing a rising number of electric vehicles plying around the city, and its regulation was not incorporated into the Transportation and Traffic Code of Vigan City. (PNA)
