The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) suspended the Expanded Number Coding Scheme on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in line with the celebration of Manila’s 455th founding anniversary.
Under the suspension, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 5 and 6 were allowed to travel freely on major roads across the city without being apprehended.
Authorities advised motorists to expect heavier-than-usual traffic as thousands of participants were expected to attend Manila Day activities.
Drivers were also encouraged to plan their routes and consider alternative routes due to expected congestion near key event venues.
"The suspension formed part of broader traffic adjustments to accommodate the influx of people joining the citywide festivities," the local government added.
