The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) intensified security measures at Batasan Hills National High School following a shooting incident in Tacloban City on Monday, June 22.
On Tuesday, June 23, the QCPD strengthened campus security by enforcing stricter entry screening, including tighter bag inspections and handheld metal detector checks for students.
School personnel also enforced more rigorous inspection protocols at entry points to ensure the safety of learners and employees inside the campus.
Principal Dr. Joseph S. Palisoc said metal detector screening had already been implemented before the incident but was further tightened amid security concerns.
He cited the school’s large population of 15,434 learners from Grades 7 to 12, noting that the number of students poses challenges in security manpower and requires closer coordination with police authorities.
More than 100 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed in various school facilities and are being used for security monitoring and surveillance.
A police assistance desk composed of personnel from the Batasan Police Station and barangay officials has also been established outside the campus, while additional police officers were deployed to strengthen security presence in the area.
The QCPD said it continues to coordinate with school administrators to further improve campus security and conduct information campaigns on anti-bullying and crime prevention.
Despite initial congestion at the gates due to stricter inspections, student entry eventually normalized as classes continued, with security measures maintained inside and outside the school premises.
