Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte convened a meeting on Tuesday, June 23, to strengthen security measures in schools amid concerns over violence in learning institutions.
Belmonte said the move followed the city government’s review of its safety initiatives amid recent incidents reported in schools across the country.
The city government said it is reinforcing protocols to prevent weapons and other dangerous items from entering school premises, while continuing security assessments and inspections to identify and address potential threats.
It is also increasing police visibility and conducting regular patrols around schools, while providing additional training and support to barangay tanods to help maintain peace and order within school communities.
Beyond security measures, the local government is expanding values formation and parent engagement programs while strengthening reporting and referral systems for students who may require immediate intervention.
The city is also promoting awareness of reporting channels, including QC Helpline 122 and other child protection mechanisms, and encouraging School Parent-Teacher Associations and community partners to actively support school safety efforts.
As part of its long-term youth development initiatives, Quezon City continues to support programs such as scouting activities to help build leadership skills, character formation, preparedness, and community service among young QCitizens.
