ILOILO CITY — Police have tightened security in schools here following the deadly shooting at the San Jose National High School in Tacloban City on Monday.
The Iloilo City Police Office deployed lawmen in schools beginning Tuesday morning, June 23, to assist in security checks.
“The safety and security of our learners, teachers, and school personnel remain a shared responsibility. Through strong collaboration and proactive measures, we can prevent incidents and ensure that our schools remain safe spaces for learning,” said ICPO Director Police Col. Wilbert Parilla.
Police are conducting security measures in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd)-Iloilo City Schools Division.
An ICPO delegation that included Police Lt. Romadelle P. Velasco of the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and Police Major Shella Mae A. Sangrines of the City Community Affairs and Development Unit (CCADU) and Public Information Office (PIO) discussed key security measures with DepEd-Iloilo City led by Division Superintendent Dr. Maria Luz M. de los Reyes.
Among these are security enhancement and interventions for high-risk schools, police deployment strategies, review of standard operating procedures of security guards, and operation and maintenance of surveillance cameras.
