JOURNEY TO JAPAN Many Filipinos pick Japan as their top destination to visit
Japan remains a growing destination for Filipino travelers. It’s likely due to the country’s wide cultural appeal to Filipinos, mostly through its production of anime series, J-pop, and beautiful sites to visit. Unfortunately, this great demand has led to restrictions on visa applications due to the sheer number of people wanting to travel to Japan. Here’s how to ensure you maximize your chances of securing a Japanese eVisa.
What is a Japanese eVisa?
Before flying off to Japan, Filipino travelers are required to apply for an eVisa. This official document allows foreigners entry into the country, usually for short-term tourism. You can apply for an eVisa by visiting the nearest VFS Global application center, as they are the official visa and passport administration outsourcing company for Japan. Applying is simple. Just set an appointment online so that they can collect your biometric information. Pay any applicable fees, then submit your completed visa form to the assigned application center. For tourist visas, ensure you have secured your passport, the completed visa application form, a recent photo printed in the specified size, a PSA-certified birth certificate, a marriage certificate if applicable, a certificate of employment, your planned itinerary, and bank statements to provide proof you have the means to spend money in Japan.
How much will you need?
As of writing, the Japanese government has approved a rise in Japanese visa application fees. It is the first implementation of its kind in over 48 years. Moving forward, application fees will be increased from the current amount of ₱1,136.62 (¥3,000) to ₱5,304.24 (¥16,000) for a single-entry visa, and ₱2,273.25 (¥6,000) to ₱11,366.24 (¥30,000) for a multiple-entry visa. These rates are based on the current conversion rate as of writing and are set to take effect in July.
Will Japan ever waive visas for Filipinos?
Japanese tourists entering the Philippines don’t need to apply for a visa to gain entry to our country. All they need is proof of a return or departing flight and a valid passport. Previously, it has been said that the Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines, Endo Kazuya, has revealed that there are currently studies being done to ease travel requirements for Filipinos. This also marks the possibility of visa-free entry for Filipino travelers.
