Las Piñas Mayor April Aguilar announced that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is targeting the completion of the long-delayed flood mitigation project along Marcos Alvarez Avenue in Barangay Talon Singko, Las Piñas City, by June.
Aguilar joined DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon during an inspection of the project on June 18.
The flood control initiative, aimed at addressing chronic flooding along one of the city's major thoroughfares, is expected to be finished before the end of the month.
According to Dizon, the project was delayed for nearly two years due to coordination issues in 2024, which resulted in setbacks in its implementation.
However, he noted that renewed cooperation between the national government and the Las Piñas City government has enabled construction to resume and move into its final phase.
Dizon added that the project is part of the government's Oplan Kontra Baha program, which seeks to strengthen flood control infrastructure and protect communities.
Aguilar emphasized that the project's completion is expected to significantly improve drainage along Marcos Alvarez Avenue, reduce flooding in nearby communities, and ensure safer, smoother travel for residents and motorists.
