Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan said that the suspects in the fatal school shooting in Tacloban cannot simply be released even if they are minors.
Three students were killed, and seven others were wounded in a shooting incident at San Jose National High School here at around 9 a.m. Monday, June 22.
Pangilinan called for the swift, full, and proper enforcement of the Juvenile Justice Law.
"The suspects cannot simply be released even if they are minors. They must go through the process established by law," he said in Filipino.
He said that under the law, the parents of the suspects may also be held accountable if negligence is established.
"The law also provides that the DSWD must extend appropriate support to the victims and their families until they achieve justice," he added.
Pangilinan also extended his deepest sympathies to the families left behind by those who were killed and strongly condemned the shooting that took place inside the school.
He also said that there is no place for violence in our society, especially in places that are supposed to be safe for children.
