Vice President Sara Duterte paid tribute to frontliners, fathers, disaster responders, and security personnel serving under the Office of the Vice President (OVP), while noting that political attacks against her have often overshadowed their hard work and sacrifices.
In a Father’s Day message released late Sunday night, June 21, Duterte expressed gratitude to workers who continue to serve communities despite long hours and the personal sacrifices that come with public service.
“Before this day ends, I want to take a moment to honor people whose sacrifices often go unrecognized and unseen,” Duterte said.
Tribute to frontliners and fathers
The Vice President thanked frontliners who continue to serve communities with “quiet determination,” recognizing the time they spend away from their families to ensure the safety and well-being of others.
“To our frontliners who continue to serve our communities with quiet determination—thank you,” Duterte said. “Many of you spend long hours ensuring that others are safe and secure, often at the expense of time that should be spent with your own families and loved ones,” she added.
Duterte also paid special tribute to fathers working at the OVP, particularly those involved in disaster response operations.
“To all the fathers in the Office of the Vice President, who take no rest and who work tirelessly in disaster response, often without acknowledgment, your efforts form the backbone of everything we are able to achieve,” she said.
Political attacks overshadow OVP personnel's efforts
Duterte also acknowledged the political challenges surrounding her office and said these have often drawn attention away from the work being done by OVP personnel.
“Even in the face of political attacks against my person, in the guise of ‘public interest’ or ‘accountability,’ that overshadow your hard work and sleepless nights, you continue to show up and persevere with professionalism,” she said.
The Vice President commended OVP employees for remaining committed to their duties despite the controversies and criticisms directed at her office.
Fatherhood through service and sacrifice
Duterte likewise thanked the OVP’s attached security and support teams, noting that many spend significant time away from their own families to ensure the safety and security of others.
“And to the attached security and support teams who ensure safety and stability every day—thank you for standing watch so that others may work and live without fear,” she said.
The Vice President emphasized that fatherhood extends beyond family relationships and can also be reflected in service, sacrifice, and dedication to the Filipino people.
The celebration of Father’s Day, Duterte said, “is a reminder that fatherhood is not only defined by family ties, but also by sacrifice and dedication extended to the Filipino people.”
Duterte ended her statement with a message of gratitude and greeted the “nameless and faceless frontliners, OVP personnel, and security teams” who continue to serve the country and Filipino families.
