  • Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong says the OVP's accomplishment report is unresponsive to allegations of confidential fund misuse, unexplained wealth, bribery, and threats against the President.
  • He stressed that the public awaits direct answers from Vice President Sara Duterte in the July 6 impeachment trial, not program reports.
  • Adiong emphasizes the trial will decide if Duterte remains fit to hold office, following her previous impeachment by the House in 2025.

Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong finds the Office of the Vice President's (OVP) latest accomplishment report utterly unresponsive to the very serious allegations lodged against impeachment trial respondent Vice President Sara Duterte.
While the accomplishment report was not released for the purpose of answering such allegations, Adiong underscored that the Filipino people have been waiting for two years for any sort of direct response from the twice-impeached Duterte.
(It is good for the public to know the programs implemented by the OVP. But that is not the issue in the impeachment case.)
(The allegations are about the supposed misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, and threats against the President. An accomplishment report cannot answer those issues.)
The OVP has recently released an accomplishment report touting programs ranging from medical assistance and disaster response to free rides and the planting of more than one million trees during Duterte’s first three years in office.
In the report, Duterte said the OVP remained steadfast despite what she described as “baseless criticisms” and “systematic attacks” against her.
Responding to this, Alonto said the impeachment trial--set to begin on July 6--was where the Vice President should directly answer the accusations leveled against her.
(If the accusations truly have no basis, this is the opportunity for her to clearly respond to them in the proper forum and under the impeachment process.)
(The public is not waiting for an accomplishment report now. What they are waiting for are answers to the serious allegations against the Vice President.)
Public service accomplishments and public accountability must go hand-in-hand, the Mindanaoan said.
(There is nothing wrong with helping the people. But these programs do not erase the serious allegations of corruption, misuse of funds, and other violations.)
Duterte was overwhelmingly impeached by the House plenary in 2025, but a Senate impeachment trial never took place.
The 2026 impeachment proceedings against Duterte practically garnered the same result--the key difference being an impeachment trial had been scheduled to start on July 6.
(The real question is whether she is still fit to remain as Vice President. That is what will be decided in the impeachment trial.)
