PNP gears up for June 28 'White Ribbon Movement' rally in QC
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is now conducting security preparations for the planned “White Ribbon Movement” rally at the EDSA People Power Monument on June 28 to ensure peace and order, and the safety of participants and the general public.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said he already instructed Metro Manila police commanders to conduct a comprehensive security threat assessment around the rally site and nearby critical infrastructure.
“While we respect the public's right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression, the Philippine National Police will remain completely apolitical and focused solely on maintaining public order and safety during the scheduled June 28 mobilization,” Nartatez said.
Religious and civil society groups led by the Inter-religious Leaders Council for National Transformation (IRCNT) have called for the nationwide march to push electoral reforms, stronger accountability in government, and action against corruption and political dynasties.
The gathering is expected to draw participants from faith-based organizations and civil society groups.
“We have already initiated strategic security assessments and directed the National Capital Region Police Office, alongside concerned local units, to exercise maximum tolerance while strictly enforcing traffic management and civil disturbance protocols,” Nartatez said.
“Our priority is to ensure that the activity will be peaceful and will not cause disruption to the commuting public and nearby business establishments,” he added.
Nartatez said PNP field commanders were told to reinforce human rights-based policing protocols across all deployed units.
