We’ve been here before. Sitting in front of a so-called "new breed" of stars, all eager, excited, and endlessly hopeful. It rubs off on us easily. We smile.

Caprice Cayetano, Heath Jornales, Marco Masa, and Clifford don't look or feel very different from the talents we met years back. We bet they are just as talented, too. Yet, looking at them, we can’t help but wonder: who among them will still be at it say, five or ten years from now?

Ah, why bother overthinking it. They are here and this is now. It is their time, and GMA knows it. That is exactly why they are starring in the network's latest afternoon offering, "You’re My Favorite Song."

Now, if you have been watching television as long as I have, you already know the blueprint. Caprice plays a 16-year-old prodigy fighting a corporate empire to save her grandfather’s seaside resort. It is classic, dependable afternoon land-dispute drama. But looking at these kids, I find myself completely bypassing the familiar plotlines and looking straight at their faces. There is something incredibly infectious about watching a new generation stand at the starting line, wide-eyed and ready to run.

For a couple of them, this project is basically a dream they are still waking up from. Marco Masa and Clifford are transitioning directly from the highly monitored universe of "Pinoy Big Brother Collab 2.0" straight into a grueling taping schedule.

"This is a dream come true dahil dati pinag-uusapan lang namin ito sa Bahay ni Kuya, now, natupad na po talaga," Clifford says.

There is a beautiful, unfiltered sincerity in that. To go from whispering about your hopes in a bunk bed under 24-hour surveillance to actually seeing your name on a major network marquee is the kind of magic you can only truly feel when you are that young.

Marco looks at the madness with a bit more seasoned comfort, happy to have his friends along for the ride. "After being outside the PBB House, ito na ulit ‘yung first-ever series ko na tuloy-tuloy ‘yung taping at kasama ko pa ‘yung mga nakasama ko sa loob ng Bahay ni Kuya," he shares. You can’t help but smile seeing how much they rely on each other to cushion the sudden pressure.

Then you have Caprice and Heath stepping into their very first major lead roles, and their idealism is just delightful. Caprice intentionally wanted a project that speaks directly to her peers.

"Hindi po ako makapaniwala kasi gusto ko rin po talagang makapag-try ng genre na light, very youthful, at alam ko pong makaka-relate ang mga Gen Z at Gen Alpha. 'You’re My Favorite Song' is a must-watch because it is a heartwarming story about friends, family, and dreams," she says.

I love that she already understands her audience, wanting nothing more than to give them something comforting.

"Napakasaya ko po dahil ito po ‘yung first series na isa po ako sa main cast. Hindi po ito dapat palagpasin dahil sa kilig na ibibigay namin na magpapapangiti sa viewers," he says.

Of course, the promotional machine will tell you to watch for the romantic chemistry, but the real charm is peering into how they actually function on set. Their biggest hurdle right now? Simply staying serious.

Wisely, the network didn't leave the heavy lifting entirely to a cast that still needs a curfew. They are backed by veterans like Boboy Garrovillo, Katya Santos, James Blanco, Kazel Kinouchi, and Wilma Doesnt.

Even the supporting cast is bursting with that specific, chaotic teenage energy. When asked what their group chat is called, Lee Victor immediately replies, "You’re My Favorite GC," pointing out Geo Mhanna as the one who keeps the chat entirely unhinged.

Their imaginary karaoke soundtrack is a hilarious window into their personalities.

Ultimately, these kids aren't promising us a flawless masterpiece, and honestly, we don't need them to. They just want to make us feel something.

"Kikiligin kayo, maiiyak, and maiinis din. I’m sure makaka-relate po ang lahat and mag-eenjoy," Caprice promises.

Heath keeps the invitation open and warm: "Punong-puno ng kilig ang ibibigay namin sa inyo. Kung gusto ninyong ngumiti, panoorin niyo lang ang 'You’re My Favorite Song.'"

Directed by JP Habac, from a concept by Mark Ivan Caro and written by Erwin Caezar Bravo, the show is a textbook case of ambition meeting opportunity.

"You’re My Favorite Song" airs 4 PM weekly on GMA starting July 22.
