A motorcycle rider flagged for traffic violations was arrested after police discovered a hand grenade, a butterfly knife (balisong), and more than P55,000 worth of suspected shabu during an "Oplan Sita" operation in Pasay City on Friday, June 19.
Pasay City Police chief Col. Joselito De Sesto identified the suspect only as Angel, 35, a newly listed drug personality and resident of Tondo, Manila.
The arrest took place at around 10:50 p.m. at the corner of 7th and 8th Streets in Villamor, Barangay 183.
According to De Sesto, personnel of Police Sub-Station 9 were enforcing local ordinances when they spotted the suspect riding a blue Yamaha Aerox motorcycle without a helmet and wearing improper footwear.
When instructed to pull over, Angel appeared nervous. While retrieving his driver’s license, an 8.5-inch butterfly knife fell to the ground, prompting officers to arrest him.
A body search yielded a medium-sized sachet containing 3.09 grams of suspected shabu worth P21,012.
Police then inspected the motorcycle’s storage compartment, where they found a black sling bag containing a hand grenade and another sachet with 5.02 grams of suspected shabu valued at P34,136.
The suspect faces multiple charges, including violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165), illegal possession of explosives, and illegal possession of deadly weapons, aside from ordinance violation receipts for traffic infractions.
