- STARtista Gallery has opened at Star City, featuring life-like resin figures of popular Filipino celebrities, athletes, and politicians. Inspired by Madame Tussauds-style attractions, the exhibit offers an accessible celebrity museum experience for local visitors, with stars like Gladys Reyes, Ara Mina, and Maui Taylor expressing support for the project.
There's something new to enjoy at Star City.
Called the STARtista Gallery, the attraction features life-like resin-based representations of popular actors, actresses, singers, sports icons, and politicians.
Yes, it is a first around these parts and, according to organizers, it was inspired by popular wax museums found abroad.
The thing about these kinds of attractions is that the “wow factor” rests mainly on how life-like the statues really are.
So, did it pass muster?
Well, yes and no. Take a gander.
The faces are recognizable and understandably so, considering they were rendered using 3D technology. The physical proportions, however, are another story.
We are familiar with some of the stars depicted therein and can say that some were made a little too big or too tall, others a tad too small.
Still, the effort is laudable.
After all, it is about time we created something like this for Filipinos who may not have the means to fly abroad to experience similar attractions.
While STARtista Gallery may not yet rival the world's most famous celebrity museums, it offers something that has long been missing from the local entertainment landscape. It gives fans a chance to get up close with their favorite personalities, if only in resin form.
Some of the celebrities featured in the gallery were present during the recent launch and readily expressed their support for the project.
Among them was actress Gladys Reyes, who was one of the first personalities to sign up.
“Nakakatuwa kasi diba, wala naman ganito sa atin? At least, ngayon meron na and I’m sure marami sa ating mga kababayan ang matutuwa,” she said.
Ara Mina likewise welcomed the attraction, noting its similarities to the world-famous Madame Tussauds museums while emphasizing its accessibility to local audiences.
“It reminds me of Madame Tussauds pero this time, version natin. Maganda ito dahil accessible para sa mga Filipino. Hindi na nila kailangan bumisita pa sa ibang bansa,” she said.
Meanwhile, Maui Taylor admitted she was pleasantly surprised by the resemblance of her figure.
“Ang galing kasi feeling ko kamukha ko talaga pati kulay ng balat ko ko nakuha nila,” she shared.
The gallery's roster of personalities is also expected to grow.
Project lead John Galang revealed that more well-known figures have already agreed to participate, including Bayani Agbayani and Gabby Concepcion.
“Kahit sino pa iniisip ninyong personality, nilapitan na namin so, abang-abang na lang,” Galang said.
Organizers are optimistic that STARtista Gallery will become one of Star City's standout attractions.
Note that visitors can access the gallery with a regular Star City admission ticket, making the experience easily accessible to families, tourists, and celebrity fans alike.
